Title: The Catcher in the Rye
Author: J. D. Salinger
Grade: A
Ideal Audience: Boys & Girls, 13+

Summary: Holden Caulfield, sixteen years old, has gone from school to school, flunking his classes and being subsequently expelled from each institution. Now he’s leaving Pencey, and is set to return home on Wednesday. But spurred on by his general dislike of the “phonies” around him, Holden decides to spend a few days in New York City until Wednesday comes.

Using his height and unusual strands of gray hair as a disguise, Holden checks into a hotel room. However, he does not anticipate how quickly he will become bored and lonely. As he wanders around the city and calls up old friends, Holden reveals to the reader his alternating acceptance and contempt of human beings.

As the novel continues, we learn many of the reasons behind Holden’s actions and thought processes. His funny and touching story keeps the reader hooked until the last page.

My thoughts: The Catcher in the Rye does not have a standard plot line in that it doesn’t contain a single conflict and finally a resolution. The main focus of critics has been Holden’s voice, and that indeed is what keeps the book moving.

I would recommend this novel to all teenagers and interested adults. Although there has been questioning as to whether modern teens can relate with Holden, there is no doubt that we can all learn from and laugh with him.

I’m 100% pleased with my Eatsmart scale purchase. I was so tired of getting different readings on my digital scale, depending on where I placed it. I could gain/lose three pounds just by moving the scale! I’ve been trying to lose ten pounds for the summer (who isn’t, right?), and I wanted a reliable scale. But I didn’t want to pay a lot for it. Voila! Amazon to the rescue. I looked at all the scales that I was willing to purchase, and read several of the reviews, and this Eatsmart scale seemed to be just what I wanted. It didn’t disappoint me. The readings are consistent, down to a tenth of a pound, and if I change clothes, I can tell how much the clothes weigh. An added bonus is that it’s very sleek and attractive. My husband didn’t even realize it was a scale when he saw it on the floor of our walk-in closet. Kudos to Eatsmart. I’ll be checking out their other products soon.

This is my first time writing a review. I purchased this bike a few days ago and can’t be more pleased with the purchase. I took it on about an 8 mile ride (had to break it in). I wasn’t sure what I was getting into having previously only owned mountain bikes. I love the flat bar system, being that I am a pretty big guy (I’m about 5′10″ and 240lbs) I know I wouldn’t like the standard road bike handle bars. The 700c tires get you up to speed effortlessly. I was riding with a good friend of mine who owns a mountain bike (I let him ride it and it convinced him into buying a road bike). Riding downhill was a thrill no need to pedal just let the tires do all the work. I bought the bike wanting to get into a new hobby and also getting back into shape after having knee surgery and gaining about 40lbs. I would recommend taking it to your local bike shop to get a tune up, averages about $40. The only negative I can think of is while I was riding I noticed the chain would rub in certain gears. Having looked and shopped around online and at the local bike shops this bike was definitely worth every cent. Overall, the bike was a great buy for the money, very durable, very comfortable, and very fun!!!

We used this pump one time right after we recieved it. We did not need it again for a month or two, but when we tried to use it a second time, it was as if the pump had deflated of all air. I don’t know how else to describe it. We had to throw it away as the time that had expired was over the 30 days for a refund. Buyer Beware!
